On the Edge: Scenes from a Fractured Childhood

In a sister book to Working-Class Kids, Hansen’s memoir project explores one girl’s journey to adolescence and through Sunnyvale High. After cascading down and moving multiple times, her family finally settles in what becomes Silicon Valley. The girl enters a working-class high school where she discovers an unlikely community. When her father suddenly dies, despairing, she tentatively turns to teachers and schoolmates in hopes that they can help her find a way to heal.
